VEUE ET PERSPECTIVE DE LA GROTTE DU CHÂTEAU DE MEUDON, fait par Aveline avec privil. du Roy : It was after 1676 and before 1699, the writer, editor and merchant prints, Pierre Aveline, settled in Jewry Street, after and before being again on the Petit-Pont. (cf. Dictionary editors prints in Paris under the Ancien Regime Paris, Promodis, 1987, p. 37-38). Until the eighteenth century, the profession of merchant prints is not always distinguished from a recorder or manufacturer many writers also practicing the sale of their works and those of their rivals. Specializing in views topographical Pierre Aveline obtained 26 July 1686 the privilege for 10 years to burn, print and sell hundred and fifteen views of royal houses. He gave this right August 12, 1695 to Nicolas Poilly. This etching can be dated between 1686 and 1695. It prints 104 of this set.
